Our story begins with a deeply personal experience that changed our lives. When our daughter, Sophia, was born prematurely due to complications from preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome, our world was turned upside down. As you can imagine, it was a very stressful and emotional time. We faced so many unknowns, but we always knew we needed a place that would make us feel comfortable and heard. However, our search for the right pediatric care was anything but easy.
We visited several local doctors' offices, but none of them felt like the right fit. They didn’t meet our expectations and weren’t the welcoming, supportive environments we needed. We were looking for more than just a doctor’s office – we were searching for a place that would honor our values, where we felt like partners in the care of our child. We wanted a holistic, open-minded approach, where families are treated with respect and kindness, not judgment or pressure. We wanted a space that wasn’t focused on pushing vaccines or “one-size-fits-all” solutions, but where all kids and their families would feel accepted and valued.
As a pediatrician and neonatologist, I have always been passionate about providing the best care possible for children. But as a parent, I was tired of being in situations where other doctors would ask me what I knew was best for my child, as I was the sub-specialist and knew the risks and complications of premature children, developmental delays, and childhood milestones. I could handle the medications, the equipment, and the decisions on my own. But what we needed – and what so many parents need – is a place where we could feel supported and empowered in our decisions, without the stress and hassle.
That’s when the idea for Gold STAR Pediatrics was born. One of our daughter’s first words was “STAR,” and we knew it was a sign. STAR is about shining bright, standing out, and being proud of who you are. Just like every family, every child deserves to feel like a star in their own right. We wanted Gold STAR Pediatrics to be a place where families could come in, relax, and feel at ease, knowing they were in the right hands.
